SUMMARY:Operation Christmas Child
DESCRIPTION:Operation Christmas Child ends November 8!  Our goal this year is 150 boxes\, so please bring your boxes each week so excitement will grow as we see the tower getting taller!!  If you would prefer to give a cash donation\, it may be put in the offering plate (be sure to label it Operation Christmas Child) or put it in the donation jar on the table in the north lobby. \nSmall notepads\, coloring books\, pencils\, crayons\, fun pens\, erasers\, a small doll\, ball or stuffed animal – these are wonderful gift ideas that ANY child would love. Don’t forget about those simple hygiene items that many of us take for granted (minus toothpaste).  If you are able\, each box costs $10 for shipping. Check out https://www.samaritanspurse.org/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child/ for videos and further instructions. The boxes will be delivered to Grand Island the third week of November.  Thank you for your generosity!  If you have any questions\, contact Lura Townsend (402.510.1872). \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Thanksgiving Offering
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, Grace Baptist Church does a Thanksgiving offering for special projects that do not fall under the normal church budget.  This year we are dividing the offering two ways.  First is for our Adopt-a-Family event that we participate in every year ($750).  Second\, we will replenish our Insurance Deductible fund.  We have new roofs on the church and parsonage\, as well as new gutters\, but we obviously had to pay our deductible\, so we now need to replenish this fund.  We recognize that times are hard for a lot of people and are thankful for any giving that that is provided.  You can give any Sunday in November. \nDon’t forget\, you can always give to funds that are already established.  Be sure to mark how you want your gift designated.  “Thanksgiving Offering” will go to the Thanksgiving project; “Benevolence Fund” is designed to help those who are in financial need; “New Building/Improvement Fund” is for our next building or improvements on our current building; and “Kingdom Fund” is for a future ministry project.  If you have questions\, please see an elder (Pastor Daniel\, Thomas Holmes\, Ryan Phillips\, or Brian Smith).  For those who give online\, these funds are also available on our website. \n

SUMMARY:Pastor's letter to Grace Church
DESCRIPTION:Dear Church Family\, \nI enjoy fishing.  One of my favorite spots growing up was a pond that a farmer had put in about ¼ mile from our house when I was still young.  The farmer built the pond behind a pre-existing fence\, and as it filled\, the pond enveloped a portion of the fence.  As the fish grew\, this underwater fence line became a great place to catch fish. \nWhile fishing with my brothers one day\, I was casting toward the fence when the wind caught my line and flung my lure over the barbed wire.  I attempted a quick jerk of the line to flick the lure back over\, but the line caught\, and the lure spun around the wire\, becoming firmly stuck\, dangling about 6” above water.  I now had two options: I could strip down\, swim out\, and save my lure\, or I could break my line and abandon it.  I chose the latter. \nI gave the line a very sharp yank\, which made the barbed wire move and made the lure jerk as well.  The wiggle of the lure enticed a largemouth bass to launch out of the water and grab my lure.  Now it was left flopping on the line.  All of a sudden\, the value of that lure increased.  My older brother told me to hold the line\, and he jumped in after the fish.  Unfortunately\, the bass continued to flop and got off the line before my brother got there.  [I know this story sounds crazy and very unlikely.  If you want\, I’ll give you my brother’s number\, and you can call him.  I actually talked to him while writing this\, and we had a good laugh over it.] \nHere’s my point:  God has called us to be fishers of men\, and I think there are some takeaways we can glean from this story: \n\nDon’t be afraid to fish where you might get tangled up. People hide where they feel safe\, and this is where you need to fish!\nDon’t think that just because you screwed up the presentation\, no one will be interested in what you’re saying. The gospel is the best lure out there.  Put it out there in front of someone and let God do the rest.\nYou won’t always “catch a fish.” They may show some interest.  They may even grab hold of something.  But in the end\, they may spit the truth out.  That’s not on you.  Your job is to fish.\n\nI can’t force you to fish\, and God won’t either\, yet He has promised a reward for those who do.  Let’s go after it! \nAfter all\, what gives us hope and joy\, and what will be our proud reward and crown as we stand before our Lord Jesus when he returns? It is you!                                    [NLT]  1 Thessalonians 2:19 \nPastor Daniel \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
