SUMMARY:Pastor's letter to Grace Church
DESCRIPTION:Dear Church Family\, \n“There are old mushroom hunters\, and there are bold mushroom hunters. But there are no old\, bold mushroom hunters.” \nThe quote above came from an email I received from    NebraskaLand Magazine about fall mushroom foraging.  While the magazine promoted the flavor of fall mushrooms and offered recipe advice on how to prepare them\, it also advised caution when identifying the mushrooms.  Hence\, the quote. \nWe would do well to use this sort of caution in our everyday lives.  Inside this newsletter\, there is an article about using caution when receiving a call about your finances or about someone needing help.  In the September 16\, 2026\, edition of our local paper\, the Phonograph-Herald\, the publisher mentioned using caution when posting online and responding to online posts. He wrote: \nOver the last few months\, I can’t tell you how many alarmist posts I have seen on social media where the original writer or those that comment and share simply miss the point and rush to judgment about an action without all the facts.  In a world where one post can get hundreds of thousands of views\, being incorrect can be dangerous.  Presenting inaccurate facts can be dire. \nThe Bible has a few cautions for us when it comes to our daily lives.  One is found in Ephesians 5:15-17 where we read\, “Look carefully then how you walk\, not as unwise but as wise\, making the best use of the time\, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish\, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”  The cure for avoiding bad decisions is knowing what a good decision is (the will of the Lord). \nIt is a good decision to not be bold when picking mushrooms. It is a good decision to use discernment when reading and/or responding to comments friends make.  It is also a good decision to love God with all your heart\, soul\, and mind\, and to love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37-40). \nIn closing:  What good decision do you need to make today? \nI’m praying for you.  We’re all in this together. \nPastor Daniel \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Operation Christmas Child
DESCRIPTION:We are beginning our annual focus on Operation Christmas Child this month.  This is where we collect shoeboxes packed with small gifts for children around the world.  Some suggested items include colored pencils\, coloring books\, toothbrushes\, combs\, small stuffed animals\, etc.  We have empty red and green boxes available in the church lobbies. \nCampaigning begins Sunday\, October 4\, and boxes are due by November 8.  If you have any questions\, contact Lura Townsend (402.510.1872). \n  \n

SUMMARY:All Church Cleaning
DESCRIPTION:Our all church cleaning evening is Monday\, October 5\, from 6-8 pm (pizza supper will be provided).  We hope it works for you to come help keep our church facility clean.  We have a large church building\, so there is a lot of cleaning to do. \nIf this date does not work for you\, but you would like to take part in cleaning\, you may contact one of the deacons (Kelvin Smith\, Ryan Hall\, Richard Porter\, or Alex Bear) so they can make arrangements for you to access the church. \nWe will have cleaning sheets ready for you to sign in as you start.  Please sign your initials when you start a project and mark it with an “X” when you have completed the project.  This will help those coming in at different times to know what has been started but not completed so we do not duplicate tasks. \nWe are so very thankful for Vicki who cleans each week\, but there are some tasks that just cannot be done in the time frame she has to clean.  We would appreciate you coming to help clean\, as we know that many hands make light work.  Together we can do this!! \n  \n

SUMMARY:Families\, Fires\, & Firearms
DESCRIPTION:The Grace Church elders invite all from Grace Church to spend an afternoon with us at Ryan Hall’s farm (730 13th Ave) on October 10 from 3 – 6 pm.  We will be shooting sporting clays (and maybe some .22 rifles)\, visiting over a campfire\, grilling some burgers and hanging out together for a few hours.  The event starts at 3 pm and should be done by 6 pm. RSVP by texting Pastor Daniel at 641.777.7355.  Bring your own chairs\, ear protection\, some bug spray\, and your own soft drink.  Water and all the food will be provided. All are welcome\, even if you don’t plan to shoot. \nNote: A free-will donation box will be available if you want to give to help cover the cost. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Boo Bash
DESCRIPTION:Each year the St. Paul Public School hosts Boo Bash.  The event this year will be Saturday\, October 31. We want the 600+ children that are usually attend Boo Bash to know that Grace is the place to be on Wednesday nights!  We also tell them about our exciting Sunday services and Sunday School programs.  We hand out small novelty toys as well as information about all the activities available at Grace Church.   If you could help with this outreach by sitting at our table\, please contact one of the Missions Committee (Angela Dibbert\, Delaney Lucht\, or Lura Townsend). \n
